US president Donald Trump was in town, reviving concerns that the NHS could be “on the table” in a post-Brexit trade-deal; and mass demonstrations from medics worried about privatisation. Winter arrived early, and with it a King’s Fund prediction that the NHS could be facing a “perfect storm” of high demand from flu and respiratory conditions and a lack of capacity, funding and staff to deal with it.

On the tech front, Manchester announced the outcome of its £400 million electronic patient record tender; and said it’s future would be Epic. Agfa indicated that it wanted to sell its electronic medical record and integrated care businesses to Dedalus.
