Andy is recognised as one of the NHS’ most influential digital leaders. Until spring 2020, he was director of digital transformation at NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit, which directs digital transformation programmes across Southern England.
The CSU runs one of the most advanced integrated digital care records in the country, Connecting Care, which now covers Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, and sits at the heart of one of the government’s local health and care record exemplar projects.
Andy was also chair of the health and care executive of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, and won the inaugural Digital Health Award in 2018 for his work to establish the Federation for Informatics Professionals, or FEDIP.
Andy has an outstanding delivery record in leading major organisational and technology-enabled change programmes, and is a strong believer in the need for more interoperable
systems.
He is currently working on interesting Covid-19 related projects and with Ethical Healthcare Consulting, a community interest company that is “proud to be the only not for profit health informatics consultancy in the UK.” Andy is also a long-standing advocate for the professionalisation of those working in health and care technology, and frequently says that he hopes the leaders of the future will have less “haphazard” career paths than his own.
