Patient plan launched by the government
A new plan designed to make it easier for patients to access NHS and social care services has been released by the government. In her foreword, health and social care secretary Thérèse Coffey, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said the NHS and social care would be supported to “make the most of digital technology”. DigitalHealth.net reported on an accelerated roll out of cloud-based telephony, detailed in the plan with the intention to help improve access to GP surgeries.
Mini budget
Health and social care levy officially dropped
The government has confirmed it is cancelling a health and social care levy that was due to come in from April 2023. Detailed alongside cuts to national insurance in a new ‘growth plan’, which has been labelled in the media as a ‘mini budget’, ministers said 28 million taxpayers would save an average of £330 annually, and that the move would make it more affordable for businesses to recruit staff. Responding, the Local Government Association reportedly called on the government to fulfill its commitment to adequately fund social care. LocalGov reported £13bn is needed for the sector.
